8-10-2014 Gaza and the Struggle for Palestine: Historical Background (Pt. 1, a) | Informed Comment | William Polk

Full article: http://www.juancole.com/2014/08/palestine-historical-background.html Like many observers I am both sick at heart and emotionally drained from watching and reading about the horrible events in Gaza. Is there more to be said about them? Yes, I think there is if we hope to achieve a degree of security and peace. So, at the risk of duplication, allow me to show how the events of today were preordained and how patterns of action have been repeated year after year. Some of it, or perhaps even most of it, may be familiar, but I have tried to “connect the dots” in a way that I do not believe has been satisfactorily done. 8-25-2014 Planting Seeds of Mideast Peace in Time of War Can Israeli and Palestinian Teens Bond at Camp While Conflict Rages? - Yardain Amron Jewish Daily Forward

http://forward.com/articles/204492/planting-seeds-of-mideast-peace-in-time-of-war/ ?   … When John Wallach, then the foreign editor of Hearst Newspapers, hatched the concept of the camp as a peacemaking venture, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was already many decades old; Israel's occupation of the West Bank and Gaza had been in place for 26 years; thousands and thousands had been killed. Five thousand two hundred graduates later, the camp's mission has grown to include girls, and also teens from other conflict areas whose people are ...

8-20-2014 An Untenable Position The Dilemma of the Liberal Zionist LAWRENCE DAVIDSON CounterPunch

http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/08/20/the-dilemma-of-the-liberal-zionist/     Conclusion: You simply cannot adhere to the principle of universal civil and political rights and, at the same time, support a Zionist state. To do so is to involve oneself in a contradiction. The liberals are being forced to face this fact. And, as this happens, they will have to make a real choice: cease being Zionist or cease adhering to the liberal ideal. I suspect that, along with Ari Shavit, most of them will decide to "stand with the damned." Posted by Judith Ferster, AIME member
